Okay, so ... here’s the quick back-story on BEING GORDY, A Situation Comedy.
BEING GORDY was originally created with the goal of daily comic strip newspaper syndication. That didn’t work out, but I believed in this property and these characters I created. My entire life I have loved three things — comic books, comic strips, and TV situation comedy. Once I made the leap and fully embraced all three together, I ended up with the following ... a TV show in comic book form, and with a comic strip sensibility to it. Each of my stories or “episodes” are tributes to my favorite sitcoms of the past. The “pilot” issue starts things off by paying homage to the classic 1970’s TV show “The Odd Couple” produced by the legendary Garry Marshall.

Gordy
Gordy is an independent comic book creator working out of his “phat crib” in New York City. Some of the better creations he is known for are Robot Comedian, Lactose The Intolerant, and Irving Moskowitz – Man Of Mystery. However, in the rst episode of BEING GORDY we learn there is more to him than meets the eye. He has a second occupation that he simply doesn’t advertise. And this brings forward a strange quirk about Gordy ... he always seems to win. Put him in any situation and in most cases he always to come out on top. Being Gordy’s best friend, Max is used to this. Paige ... not so much.
Paige
Paige loves her life in New York City. She has a good job in broadcast journalism. She’s a single, attractive, condent woman living in the present in today’s world. A few years ago, she happened to meet this weird guy named Gordy. He was the rst guy in a while that not only didn’t hit on her, but showed no interest in her other than being friends. Despite his lack of lter and odd quirks, they became fast friends. Every once in a while Paige holds up her phone and says “Hey Gordy ... the 1970’s called and they want their haircut back.” Such is the cost of friendship.
Max
Max completes the main trio of the BEING GORDY cast. Max has a long history with Gordy. They’ve been best friends since they were children at a summer camp (and THAT’s a story for another day). Max works in Manhattan and lives out on Long Island with this wife Abbi and their three adopted children. Max is happy to play the role of Gordy’s dutiful sidekick and partner-in-crime, and his wife Abbi will never understand why. Abbi is only fond of Gordy like a person is fond of head lice. But, hey ... maybe she means that in the nice way?
About the creator ...
Hey there! So ... my name is Dave Gordon and I am the creator, writer and artist of BEING GORDY, A Situation Comedy. I answer to the pen name “Gorde.” Growing up, Gordy was my nickname, but everybody spelled it with an “e” instead of a “y”, so I just kept it. It was easier than correcting people all the time.
I began my career as a cartoonist and illustrator while still a student at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. In 1987, I published my first book Gordy — Hot, Hip, Happenin’, and Now!, a collection of comic strips from my popular feature in The UMass Daily Collegian.
I like to call myself “2nd generation.” My father was a freelance gag cartoonist for various magazines in the 1950 through the 1970’s. I clearly got the itch to draw from him. (Thanks, Dad.)
I live half an hour outside of Boston in the quiet town of Natick, Massachusetts. My time is usually divided between my work on BEING GORDY and my ad agency of 20+ years — B Direct MKTG.
BEING GORDY, A Situation Comedy is my first independent comic book property. When not writing or drawing comics, I’m usually “zoning out” in my favorite recliner chair rewatching episodes of The Bob Newhart Show or The Mary Tyler Moore Show. The classics NEVER get old. A good night for me is an Italian coldcut sub with extra pickles (the pickles are important), an ice-cold Coca-Cola, and a couple episodes of Star Trek. Which series? Pick one ... ALL Trek is good Trek. Although Deep Space Nine is a personal favorite.
Things that make me happy ... Angel & The Ape comics, talking shop with my fellow comic creatives, watching video of Don Rickles perform, and any Pete Townshend, Joe Jackson or Mary Fahl album. Oh, yeah ... and simply “getting lost” at my drawing table ... because THAT’s what it’s really all about.
